BBC Collective Editor Album Review
Cockney salsa meets bhangra garage.Wiley, head honcho of the 13-strong crew of DJs and MCs which once counted Dizzee Rascal among their number, is clearly a man of eclectic tastes. Not only do his street-level tunes (named “eski” after their chilly, glacial strings) bear testament to his penchant for world music record stores, but the crew’s debut album manages to cover soul, cockney salsa and what can only be described as bhangra garage on the excellent When I’m ‘Ere. Surprisingly widescreen, hugely energetic and infinitely good.
